Front and center you’ll find a story covering one of our recent projects, offering examples of our solution mindset and teamwork. See our latest, Frost Bank in San Antonio, TX, in the photo on the right and in our story on our website.Second, we always have a guest columnist share their perspective on building envelope solutions that offers valuable insight for our client readers. Check out this issue’s piece by Phil Dregger on the importance of roof maintenance – and the disastrous effects not maintaining your roof properly can have.

Hi there. The Chamberlin Man here.Man alive! During those last few weeks of late spring to early summer, the rain had really been coming down. Widespread flooding had been headline news. Plus, many homes and businesses experienced water infiltration from the top down.Fact of the matter is the incidence of roof failure rises with the rain gauge, too. And a roof failure can be devastating to interior finishes and costly to repair. Not to mention the potential cost of replacing inventory or belongings lost to a wet mess. It’s bad news!  So allow me to share a silver lining.  While you certainly can’t control how much rain falls from the sky, there are measures within your control to help prevent roof leaks and failures.

Hi there. The Chamberlin Man here.A project doesn’t have to be large in scale to present challenges that require attention to detail, expertise and teamwork.  In fact, May’s Chamberlin News covers a project that didn’t cover a particularly large amount of square footage but still required the team at Chamberlin Roofing & Waterproofing to employ all its assets. The details made all the difference at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where Chamberlin installed waterproofing to a split slab condition at the hospital entrance, leaving the area watertight and the medical equipment protected in the basement below.  The project took just two weeks thanks to a little overtime and an effective phasing solution initiated by Chamberlin.

Hi there.  The Chamberlin Man here.Afraid of heights? Don't look at these photos!A 12,000 square foot barrel shaped standing-seam aluminum roof constructed of 40-foot custom-made sheet metal panels isn’t the average roofing project.  Of course, it proved to be no problem for Chamberlin Roofing and Waterproofing in Austin. The 320-home residential high-rise is called SkyHouse Austin for a reason.  Twenty-four stories tall, construction on the tower roof required innovative safety measures and a brave crew to manage the steep grade created by its barrel design.Despite the challenges intrinsic to the design, Chamberlin delivered “our usual;” that is, outstanding workmanship.  In this case, the standing seam materials were custom fabricated in Chamberlin’s Austin sheet metal shop.  A five-man crew then installed the sheets by meticulously walking them into place, one by one.

Hi there.  The Chamberlin Man here. When you have an MVP on your team, you win.  That’s why we’re especially proud to call Chamberlin Roofing Superintendent Curtis Purvis one of our very own.At the recent National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) annual convention, Curtis was named one of the Roofing Industry’s MVPs.  As if that wasn’t exciting enough, he also took home the industry’s top honor – the “Best of the Best” MVP award.  To be clear, the Best of the Best award is given to only one professional in the country.  Our guy, Curtis, was named the “top gun” of our industry.  Pretty nifty!Curtis is truly a role model who demonstrates work-related and personal goals to which others aspire.  That’s what being an MVP is all about.Curtis was kind enough to share the spotlight with a couple other exciting wins for Chamberlin as a whole.  The company received two Gold Circle awards, both for our work at Dallas Love Field.  We received an honorable mention in Outstanding Workmanship, Low Slope category and also the highly sought after Gold Circle Safety Award.  As the only winner for safety, we’re especially proud of

Hi there. The Chamberlin Man here. There are many things for an owner to consider and calculate when redeveloping a real estate asset.  Should it be torn down for something sleek and new?  Should it be renovated or possibly repurposed?  One client was considering those same options with their Art Deco 1960s office development that was significantly lacking curb appeal.  Removing it altogether and building something new was definitely on the table; however, taking into consideration its location, architectural significance and market potential, demolition was not the most desirable or economical alternative.3701 Kirby, a 12-story office building and 3801 Kirby, which is seven-stories, are located in Houston’s Greenway Plaza district just north of Interstate 59.  Many tenants hang their hat here including oil and gas companies, law offices and design and architectural shops.

Hi there.  The Chamberlin Man here.Chamberlin is proud to have recently been part of the construction team on the Parkland Hospital project in Dallas, Texas – the largest single-phase public healthcare project in the country.  Take that in for a second. To get the job done, Joint Venture General Contractors, BARA – made up of Balfour Beatty Construction, Austin Commercial, H.J. Russell & Company and Azteca Enterprises – implemented a “collaborative project delivery” process involving numerous mockups and feedback from hundreds of physicians, clinicians and technicians to solve technical problems and promote workflow.  Of course, construction also required an army of subcontractors.  As a matter of fact, the building of the $1.27 billion hospital required five million man-hours.Chamberlin's scope of work on this colossal undertaking included $1.25 million of caulking, air barrier, flashing and wall insulation.  The scale of even our relatively small piece of the overall project is best illustrated by the massive amount of materials installed.

Hi there.  The Chamberlin Man here.We got the opportunity to be our own client and perform work on new construction for our own office building this summer.  The Dallas area team has some new “digs” and though they are just down the road, the new office and the old are worlds apart. The 28,000 square foot facility features a modern design created by Alliance Architects.  Schwob Building Company was the general contractor.  And Chamberlin, naturally, completed the roof system, as well as the waterproofing, elastomeric coating, warehouse flooring, and the control joint work. The energy efficient building features LED lighting and sensor faucets.  The 14,000 square foot warehouse space is home to Chamberlin’s in-house sheet metal fabrication shop. The training and conference room are both equipped with all the latest audiovisual controls allowing Chamberlin offices across Texas and Oklahoma to collaborate and communicate smarter and faster – ultimately serving clients better.

Hi there.  The Chamberlin Man here. It’s no secret we love history at Chamberlin Roofing and Waterproofing (‘cause we’ve got quite a long history ourselves)!  So it’s especially exciting when we’re working on a project we feel will become an integral part of that story.  Even before ground is broken some projects are just special.  They are challenging and rewarding all at the same time.  They are notable and significant.Austin’s highly anticipated new JW Marriot is that kind of project.  With more than 1,000 guest rooms and a three-level below-grade parking garage, the hotel and conference center is Marriott’s largest property in North America – the second largest worldwide.Chamberlin is mighty proud to have been appointed by joint venture general contractors Hunt Construction Group and Hardin Construction to provide a comprehensive scope of waterproofing services that touched the building envelope, the parking garage, the pool deck and even an underground sedimentation tank.
