Making History – A Project for the Books

Hi there.  The Chamberlin Man here.

It’s no secret we love history at Chamberlin Roofing and Waterproofing (‘cause we’ve got quite a long history ourselves)!  So it’s especially exciting when we’re working on a project we feel will become an integral part of that story.  Even before ground is broken some projects are just special.  They are challenging and rewarding all at the same time.  They are notable and significant.

Austin’s highly anticipated new JW Marriot is that kind of project.  With more than 1,000 guest rooms and a three-level below-grade parking garage, the hotel and conference center is Marriott’s largest property in North America – the second largest worldwide.

Chamberlin is mighty proud to have been appointed by joint venture general contractors Hunt Construction Group and Hardin Construction to provide a comprehensive scope of waterproofing services that touched the building envelope, the parking garage, the pool deck and even an underground sedimentation tank.  Getting your arms around the scale and scope of our work on this project is a challenge.  Perhaps the numbers tell the story best:

  • 60,000 linear feet of double seam joint sealants
  • 45,000 sq. ft of vertical waterproofing
  • 25,000 sq. ft. of underslab waterproofing
  • 15,000 sq ft. of cold fluid-applied waterproofing
  • 10,000 sq. ft of pavers

Coordinating with the other trades on the project was essential, as always, but more intricate than most given the scale and scope of work on this project.  What’s more, two tasks within the scope of services presented challenges new to even our most experienced team.  Read about the specialized safety plans Chamberlin and the general contractor worked together to come up with as well as more details about this project in an article we published titled
A View From the Top.

Ultimately, even the most challenging pieces of the Marriott project were part of the success story – a story we’ll tell for many years to come.  For a more in-depth look at Chamberlin’s work at the Austin JW Marriott and other articles from our newsletter, check out our website.

Until next time, I'll be seeing you around.
