In talking with a Construction Career Collaborative (C3) Accredited Employer Specialty Contractor recently, I stumbled upon an issue that got my attention. He explained to me that as an advocate of C3 and its principles, and as a C3 Craft Training Endorsed company, he was finding it difficult to get placed on the bid lists of C3 General Contractors. Correspondingly, the positive results of his C3 participation were hard to see.
C3 has been able to turn this situation into a source of innovation. It made us realize that while C3 has 280 Accredited Employers, 123 of which have earned a craft training endorsement, we were not connecting the dots for our Contractors and Owners. In other words, my conversation with this C3 Accredited Employer was an “aha moment” for the C3 team, from which came the idea of creating an evergreen C3 Directory of Accredited Employers that we will share with all C3 GCs on a quarterly basis and keep current on our website. To make certain that this idea was of value for the GCs, we surveyed a number of them, and all recognized the value in the directory and planned to share it with their estimating folks. That was all we needed.
For three weeks now, C3 Operations Administrator, Diane Aguilar, has been gathering each C3 Accredited Employer’s contact information for inclusion in this directory with the intention that it will lead to the receipt of more invitations to bid for each of these companies. To date, we have received responses from 157 Accredited Employer Specialty Contractors, but that also means that we still have yet to receive responses from 97 C3 Accredited Employers.
