If you have been around C3 for very long you know that I believed Mike Holland and Jim Stevenson when they said this was all about the mission. At first, I thought it would be easy but missions wouldn't be called missions if they didn't take advanced planning and strategic execution. Daily, I am honing my skills at telling people what we are about and why we want to accomplish the building of a solid talent pipeline of safe, skilled, and sustainable craft professionals. But really that starts at a different location.
Workforce initiatives exist all over the globe and construction plays host to hundreds of them in the USA alone. What makes us special? We aren't about skilled workforce, we are about owner demand. We truly believe we are a "Field of Dreams". If we build demand for a highly skilled workforce employed by contractors with best practices in talent management we will be the industry of choice.
When owners realize they hold the key to the workforce in their hands, we can move the industry forward. That forward momentum creates contractors that work harder at being good employers. Contractors who train and retain highly skilled professionals. In the end, we find that our jobsites are filled with the major league players we have always wanted and they are thriving in their communities creating economic upswing for Houston.
It would not be wrong to say that passion brought us to this point. Nor would it be wrong to say that hard work is all that will lead the way forward. And it is collaborative work. We work best when we work together. It is why we love our volunteers so much. Because despite not necessarily having the time they always have the heart. They bring the passion that the programs need—their hearts birth programs like #SHEbuildsHouston and the Workforce Development Conference.
C3 is merely an avenue to creating higher quality stronger partnerships in the industry. But really what can my tiny team of ten enthusiastic, creative, and empowered professionals do without each of you? Not much. Your hearts, your investments, and your commitments propel us forward. It is why we believe that each of you is integral to our development and why we are certain that you each are ready to take the opportunity to participate with us in our vision and mission either through annual sponsorship, ongoing accredited employer renewal, event sponsorship and attendance, or bringing another owner/contractor/professional onto our field of dreams.
