Seasonally adjusted construction employment increased from September 2018 to September 2019 in 39 states and the District of Columbia and declined in 11 states, an AGC analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics data released on Friday shows.

The partially built Hard Rock Hotel and condos on the edge of the French Quarter in New Orleans collapsed eight days ago killing three workers and injuring at least 30. The collapse, the cause of which is still under investigation, demolished parts of 11 floors of the structure, collapsed the “Buck Lift” and destabilized the two cranes that were anchored to the building.

Construction input prices fell 0.6% in September and are down 1.7% year-over-year, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Producer Price Index data released today. Nonresidential construction input prices fell 0.7% for the month and are down 1.4% compared to the same time last year.

According to the latest information out of the French Quarter in New Orleans, the two cranes, both standing after the partial collapse of the under-construction multi-use building will be blown down today as a precaution as a major tropical storm moves into the New Orleans area over the weekend.

Last Saturday morning, the under-construction, $85 million multiuse Hard Rock hotel, retail, and apartment project at 1031 Canal Street in the French Quarter in New Orleans suffered a partial floor collapse of 11-floor slabs killing two and injuring 18 of the over 100 workers who were on the site during the collapse.
