Seasonally adjusted construction employment rose in 41 states from June 2016 to June 2017, decreased in eight states and the District of Columbia, and remained unchanged in Iowa, an AGC analysis of BLS data released on Friday showed.

In this second article in our series on succession, we will continue the discussion of the internal transfer of responsibility and ownership, the most common method for construction companies.  It does bear repeating that self-performing contractors, not required to bond, can usually be sold, as can established general contractors with a strong brand franchise and a reliable client base, especially in preferred growth markets.  Still, most construction firms transfer ownership and control internally.

An episode about what Success really means aired last month on NPR’s TED Radio Hour.  It included a 2013 interview by Guy Raz who spoke with Mike Rowe, who had been the host of a television show for nine years on the Discovery Channel called Dirty Jobs.  In Dirty Jobs, Rowe featured people who work in jobs generally considered to be undesirable by working for a day as an apprentice in those jobs and learning what it was like.
