Lift & Move USA Careers Event to be Held in Houston [1]
[10]The second Lift & Move USA careers event [11] will take place in Houston, Texas on February 10, 2016. The first event was held in June in Chicago, Illinois and attracted more than 140 attendees including students, apprentices and veterans, all interested in learning more about careers in the crane, rigging and specialized transport industry. The one-day event will feature speakers on a wide range of topics from an Industry Overview to How to Get a Job to Career Stories from craft professionals.
Backing the event are organizations including Houston-based crane company TNT Crane & Rigging [12] – which will host the event at its facility – sponsors Crane Inspection & Certification Bureau (CICB) [13], Tadano America Corporation [14], and Bengal Industries [15], plus the IUOE (International Union of Operating Engineers) [16], and national vocational training body SkillsUSA [17]. Also supporting the event are private companies Lifting Gear Hire [18], Mammoet USA Inc [19], and Berard Transportation [20].
Lift & Move USA is an industry initiative to promote job opportunities in the crane, rigging and specialized transport industries, and is targeted at high school students, college students and military veterans. It will educate the next generation of drivers, mechanics, welders, operators, and riggers on opportunities within the industry.
The event is jointly organized by Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA) [21], the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) [22], and industry publisher KHL Group, owners of American Cranes & Transport [23] magazine.
Mike Appling, TNT’s President and CEO said:
“There is real support for this initiative and one of the reasons for that is the growing recognition of the important role that skilled trades people play in our economy. The crane and rigging industry is facing a shortage of skilled labor. Lift & Move USA will meet that challenge by showcasing our industry to young people, showing them the many rewarding jobs and careers that are available.”
Joel Dandrea, Executive Vice President of SC&RA, said he was pleased with the response from the industry to the upcoming Lift & Move event. He said:
“The first event in Chicago was a great success, and now we are seeing that many of our members are interested in participating in Houston, or hosting events in different cities. We know very well the wonderful careers that young people can have in this industry. These events will drive home these opportunities to the next generation of drivers, mechanics, welders, crane operators, and riggers.”
Crane, specialized transport and rigging companies work in a wide range of industries including construction, oil and gas, energy and transportation.
Lift & Move USA is targeted at young people considering their future careers, including students in high school and those attending community and technical colleges; therefore, registration for the event is free for students, parents, teachers, and military veterans.
