June Celebrates 30 Years of National Safety Month [1]
This year, the National Safety Council (NSC) celebrates 30 years of observing June as National Safety Month.
This is a time to re-evaluate safety procedures to prevent injuries by reconnecting to safety initiatives [9] highlighting leading causes of preventable death and injury and focusing on ways to lead safer lives in the workplace and at home.
Since the establishment of National Safety Month by the NSC in June 1996, organizations and individuals throughout the country have observed this month as a time to bring extra attention to safety issues at work, at home and everywhere in between.
Preventable injuries are a leading cause of death in the United States- NSC
Since preventable injuries are a leading cause of injury and death in the U.S., it is important for workplaces to promote and encourage safety by committing and participating in National Safety Month. This month gives companies a specific time and resources to focus on safety, which thereby boosts productivity and profit by decreasing injury and time away from work.
The 2026 National Safety Month Weekly Safety Topics include:
- Moving Safety Forward (Week 1: June 1-6): Advancing a culture of safety with forward-thinking strategies and tools.
- Staying Safe on the Roads (Week 2: June 7-13): Safe roads begin with safe choices.
- Promoting Holistic Worker Health (Week 3: June 14-20): Support total worker wellbeing with insights on mental, physical and emotional health.
- Preventing Slips, Trips and Falls (Week 4: June 21-30): Reducing common workplace and home hazards with targeted prevention resources.
