Secret Government Jobs, High Rises, and Retail Selected for Winning Steel Erection Projects
The Steel Erectors Association of America (SEAA) has announced the winners of its annual Project of the Year for steel erection contracts topped out in 2016. The winning projects demonstrate the range and complexity of steel construction in the United States. Two of the projects were for government installations with extremely tight tolerances and high-level security clearances, while the others were more traditional high-rise and big-box construction with congested job sites and tight project schedules. From the window of my home. I can see two cranes against the skyline. I live in Houston and over the past few years, cranes have become a pretty common site. With binoculars, I can see the sole operator in his solitary perch. All day he swings the long lateral arm. Sometimes it is a bucket of cement, other times long steel rods and other assorted materials. Any other method of moving so varied payloads would take a great deal more time and human power.
