A Sustainable Workforce Starts With You

The Construction & Maintenance Education Foundation (CMEF), the educational affiliate of Associated Builders & Contractors of Greater Houston (ABC), is proud to announce it has received a donation of $30,000 from the Houston Chapter of the Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP). The funds will be used towards crane training and educating craft professionals in the Houston area.

On October 18, Associated Builders and Contractors of Greater Houston (ABC) held its annual Excellence in Construction Awards (EIC), which showcased forty-one projects, built by ABC Greater Houston members, that were rigorously judged on an array of criteria. This event, established in 2000, recognizes outstanding projects in the commercial and industrial construction industry. Top scoring projects were showcased at the evening program, and winners were given local and national media attention including ABC’s Build Houston Magazine.

On July 21, six Texas Chapters of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) and its member companies renewed their partnership and established a two-year agreement with the Texas offices of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the United States Department of Labor (OSHA), in order to recognize the importance of ensuring a safe and healthy work environment in the construction industry.

Members of ABC gathered to recognize 2017 Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP) Award recipients. The STEP Program is a safety benchmarking and improvement tool that helps companies achieve higher safety metrics. Studies show that STEP participants are 720 percent safer than the industry average and reduced their recordable incidents by 87 percent.
