Adjust Your Attitude

This saying was hanging in the bathroom of the facility where we were working at a recent planning session for a contractor’s leadership team.

Attitude

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.  Attitude to me is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people say or do.  It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill.  It will make or break a company… a church… a home.  The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.  We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change our past.  We cannot change the inevitable.  The only thing that we can do is to be in charge of our attitude.

With the current uncertainty in the economy and with a number of contractors and subs struggling to stay afloat, I thought that it was on point.

Whether this economy is the “new normal” or only the prelude to another growth cycle in the industry, attitude will make a big difference in how fast we recover and how we make the decisions that will propel our companies into the rest of the decade.

“Your choice!” my dad used to say.  “You can get out of bed in the morning and feel good or grumpy and the rest of your day will be that way.”
