Three Skilled Trades Organizations Unite To Create Online Covid-19 Resources For CTE Classes

ALACHUA, Fla. — NCCER, The Coordinating Committee for Automotive Repair (CCAR) and Electude have collaborated to create COVID-19 best practice resources and online training to serve career and technical education students and instructors throughout the pandemic.

Because mastery of hands-on skills required for success in trade-based careers requires rigorous in-shop and in-person tasks, social distancing and disinfecting protocols are extremely important. Recognizing the need for guidance in practical training, NCCER, CCAR and Electude created a website with the following resources:

  • “Skilled Trades COVID-19 Career Education Guidelines,” with strategies to create a blended learning environment that keeps students and staff safe, reserves in-person school time for hands-on training and provides guidance for conducting classrooms and lectures online

  • Best practices for shops and labs, including a COVID-19 Lab & Shop Process Acknowledgement that focuses on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and social distancing

  • COVID-19 Recommended Supplies for Schools

  • COVID-19 Participant Questionnaire, to be used at the beginning of each in-person day

  • Innovative, interactive COVID-19 online learning module specifically written for professionals in Career Technical Education (CTE)

  • Ongoing guidance as the impact of COVID-19 evolves

“NCCER is fully aware of the challenges faced by our constituents during these unprecedented times,” said Katrina Kersch, chief operations officer at NCCER. “The products created in our partnership with CCAR and Electude will go a long way toward providing those in CTE with best practices guidance and specific, timely online training.”

Added Charlie Ayers, president of CCAR, “We are delighted that NCCER and Electude are willing and enthusiastic partners. They worked with us to take our existing automotive-based resources and broaden their usability for those in every CTE category.”

“We’ve known for a long time that our platform of interactive, engaging online lessons are very effective at teaching today’s automotive students,” said Thomas Snyder, Electude’s chief commercial officer. “Working with NCCER and CCAR we have created best-in-class CTE training and resources for all of those interested in teaching and learning skilled trades.”
