Leaning Tower in San Francisco – Montana Sues

As we noted in previous posts, we will keep you up-to-date on the latest developments on this project. It seems now that Joe Montana, former quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers football team, is caught up in the construction issues at the Millennium Tower commonly known as the Leaning Tower of San Francisco. According to SFGate (the web publication of the San Francisco Chronicle), Montana and his wife have sued Millennium Partners, the developers of the tower, and the Transit Joint Powers Authority, the public authority building the transit center next door, for $2.7 million in damages for the purchase and $1 million in “consequential damages.”

Montana and his wife were enticed by the developers to lease a condo at a reduced rate for three years before purchasing in 2013. As part of the relationship, the Montana couple was hired by the developers to promote the condo tower to potential buyers.

This is just the latest chapter in the ongoing saga of Millennium Tower which is leaning and sinking at a much more rapid rate than projected, that leaning having been confirmed by satellite photos.  A video in the SFGate article reports, “According to satellite date released by the European Space Agency, the luxury high-rise is continuing to sink at a rate of about 1.6 to 1.8 inches over the past year.”

Stay tuned as the courts and the engineers try to resolve this modern-day dilemma and develop cures first seen in the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
