Houston Leads the Way for 2018 New Construction Starts

Three Texas metro areas – Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth, and Austin – placed one, two, and nine on the rankings of the value of new 2018 construction starts of the top 51 United States cities according to a recent article in Daily Commercial News titled Construction Starts in the Biggest Cities in the U.S. and Canada.

Houston placed number one with starts valued at $28 billion and an increase of 15.1% over 2017.  DFW new starts were valued at $26.1 billion, a slight decrease from the previous year.  Austin had an 11.1% increase from $9.6 billion to $11.6 billion.

Those numbers reflect the vitality of the Texas markets and the positive results for the contractors in those cities.  According to several recent articles, those and new 2019 starts should prove well for continued positive results for Texas contractors and subs.

In terms of percentage change in the value of construction starts, New York City led the pack with a whopping 70.8% increase in 2018 over 2017 construction value.  Austin ranked number 6 with 21.1%, Houston was number 11 at 15.1%.  San Antonio ranked number 28 with a loss in value of 5.1%. and DFW came in at 35th with a loss of 10.4%.
