HOUSTON, TEXAS, Griesenbeck Architectural Products, Inc. announced that work on the POST HTX in Houston, TX has earned the company a national Excellence in Construction® Eagle Award, presented during ABC Convention 2022 in San Antonio, on March 16. The EIC awards are the construction industry’s leading national competition that honors general and specialty contractors for world-class, safe and innovative construction projects from across the nation.

Lovett Commercial purchased the Barbara Jordan Post Office site in 2015 with plans to renovate and reposition it as a mixed-use development. It is now the place to go in town for events, to try new restaurants, or to enjoy the Skylawn, for which Griesenbeck sourced and safely installed the largest single lite walkable skylights ever done in the United States. With some skylights 10’6” in diameter and weighing over one ton each, Griesenbeck installed 40 custom skylights on the roof (26 of which are walkable) and 62 custom walkable skylights above the old post office loading dock.

“For 32 years, ABC has honored award-winning construction projects like POST HTX because the work by the team at Griesenbeck exemplifies the best of the best in construction,” said 2022 National Chair of the ABC Board of Directors Stephanie Schmidt, president, Poole Anderson Construction, State College, Pennsylvania. “This exemplary construction project was built safely and on time. It is an honor to congratulate Griesenbeck for their hard work and showcase of construction excellence.”

This national EIC award honors every member of the construction team, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects are judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation and safety.

A panel of industry experts served as the competition’s judges. This year’s judges included representatives from the Smithsonian Facilities Construction Division, Construction Management Association of America, Engineering News-Record, Design-Build Institute of America, University Research Institute and various construction-related firms nationwide.

A full list of EIC winners is available on ABC’s website.
