The Construction & Maintenance Education Foundation (CMEF), the educational affiliate of Associated Builders & Contractors of Greater Houston (ABC), is proud to announce it has received a donation of $30,000 from the Houston Chapter of the Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP). The funds will be used towards crane training and educating craft professionals in the Houston area.
“We are very grateful to be recipients of this outstanding donation,” said Michael Richter, Vice President of Education and Workforce Development at CMEF. “We thank SMRP for their contribution to educating our craft professionals and crane operators to be safer and better equipped for the workforce.”
CMEF is a nonprofit foundation devoted to serving the workforce development and training needs of the contractor community through programs ranging from craft and safety training to management and leadership instruction. CMEF is accredited by the NCCER, and courses are taught using the nationally standardized NCCER curriculum.
SMRP is a nonprofit professional society formed by practitioners to develop and promote excellence in maintenance, reliability and physical asset management while creating leaders in the profession. The Houston Chapter of SMRP has given over $250,000 of individual scholarships, University Endowments, and grants since 2008 to support continued interest and development in craft development and engineering.
“Our goal is to develop and administer cost effective training, skills assessments, and other workforce development programs that will increase the quality and availability of construction and maintenance employees, communicate career opportunities, promote a positive image for the industry and satisfy the needs of owners, contractors and other employees in the Greater Houston area,” said Richter. “We feel confident that this donation will help us further our training objectives and encourage craft professionals to seek education to further their overall career development. As we look into the upcoming year, we believe that our goals will benefit from this generous donation.”
