A Sustainable Workforce Starts With You

Celebrating WIC Week 2023

WIC Week™, or Women in Construction Week™, is observed March 5-11, 2023, and is a yearly event that celebrates, highlights and promotes the role of women in the construction industry. The National Association of Women in Construction, or NAWIC, held the first WIC Week in 1998 to create a support network for women in the construction industry.

Since 1998, WIC Week™ has continually grown and expanded. Many local chapters hold WIC Week™ events, which can include making presentations to high school classes, job site tours, luncheons and virtual events.

The theme of WIC Week™ 2023, 'Many Paths, One Mission', celebrates the different journeys women have taken toward the same goal: strengthening and amplifying the success of women in the construction industry.

Construction firms and businesses that work in the construction field are encouraged to participate in WIC Week™ and show their support for women employees. Businesses and individuals can find events near them with which to participate on the NAWIC event calendar.

Ways to Observe Women in Construction Week:

  1. Encourage women to take construction opportunities

There are many opportunities for women in construction today. Visit schools or networking groups and use social media to spread the message.

  1. Join an association for women in construction

If you're a woman in construction, join an association of female construction workers and connect to other women in construction.

One such association is Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Greater Houston’s LOGIC (Ladies Operating for Growth in Construction) committee. The mission of the group is to “represent the interests of women within the construction industry and assist with increasing the quality and availability to women that will promote a positive image to other women within and outside of the industry”.

Another association is The National Association of Women in Construction, or NAWIC, which has multiple chapters in Texas (which is in the South Central Region), including Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, Waco and Corpus Christie.

  1. Share ideas with your fellow workers

Meet with other women in construction to share ideas and talk about possible innovations.

  1. Highlight female construction workers in your company
  1. Take part in local WIC Week events
