In an effort to inspire an interest in young women who may have not considered a career in the construction industry, the Construction & Maintenance Education Foundation, the educational affiliate of Associated Builders and Contractors of Greater Houston, is partnering with local industry female professionals to facilitate the 2021 Virtual Girls Construction Camp. Participating companies include Brock Group, CMEF, Dow Chemical, Dream It. Do It. Southeast Texas, Marek Brothers, PCL Industrial Construction, Turner Industries, and Worley.
The event will be March 30, 2021; 10:00 – 10:40 a.m.
The Virtual Girls Construction Camp will feature informational sessions led by ABC/CMEF member company volunteers dedicated to sharing their time and career experiences with the next generation of construction industry female leaders including video clips of various craft skills demonstrations will be shown.
The value of safety, teamwork, and quality will be highlighted throughout the event as industry presenters share their experiences and why they themselves are thankful to have selected a career in the construction industry. At the end of the presentations, students will have the opportunity to ask questions about safety, work hours, training, and educational requirements.
An invitation to this virtual event was sent to 23 ISDs that CMEF partners with encouraging 8th-grade female students, their parents, teachers, and counselors to participate. The primary focus is to provide the students with a new awareness and appreciation for the construction industry and the vast diversity of great career opportunities that await them in the future as well as the information that the students gleaned will assist them in their decision to select a Graduation Endorsement Plan and Career Pathway that they may not have otherwise considered by participating in the 2021 Virtual Girls Construction Camp.
