A Sustainable Workforce Starts With You

First Annual Building New Foundations Charity Golf Tournament to Benefit Boys’ Home Near Houston

Last December we told you about a group of construction workers who volunteered their time, skills, and money to renovate a boys’ home called The Good Shepherd Residential Treatment Center.  The center houses 40 boys at a time who have been removed from their families by Texas courts and are not suitable for regular foster care due to a variety of reasons.  Following that renovation in which over 35 companies participated, the desire to continue to “give back” to deserving organizations in the local community has motivated several leaders in the construction industry to organize and form a new non-profit organization called “Building New Foundations”.  The organization’s mission statement is:

“To effect a positive transformation in the lives of the disadvantaged youth of the greater Houston area.  By utilizing the community’s human, financial and spiritual resources, we commit to altering their present state and their future by focusing on their mental, emotional, corporal, educational and spiritual health and growth, as well as improving their current physical environment.”

The seven board members have now announced that the first annual Building New Foundations Charity Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, November 11, 2013 in Kingwood, TX and will benefit The Good Shepherd RTC.

Hayden Austin, a Project Manager for D.E. Harvey Builders and board member for Building New Foundations explained what this tournament is all about:

“The Good Shepherd RTC it is a treatment center for boys (ages 7-17) who have failed the foster care system.  Most (if not all) of these boys have been the victims of awful abuse.  These boys didn’t choose their lot in life – they were dealt a bad hand.  Our desire is to come alongside the kids and show them we care.  We want these boys to know that they can rise above the circumstances they face and they can be better because of it.  These are the forgotten kids – they don’t have family that come to see them, and they don’t have a lot of friends.  Most are dealing with deep emotional trauma and confusing attempts at making sense of all they’ve endured.  But we can make a difference!  All proceeds from this golf tournament will be used towards a building fund set up to provide a new and improved environment for these boys.  Renderings of their new facilities are already complete; all that is lacking now is the funding to make this vision come to fruition.  By playing in this golf tournament, you’ll be supporting a worthy cause that affects the local community of Houston, but most importantly affects the lives of these boys!”
